Exclusively for State of Delaware employees, pensioners, and faculty and staff from all public school districts and charter schools.

This free event includes a 5K Run/Walk, a 1 mile noncompetitive walk, an off-site option as well as a health fair at The Governor’s Residence at Woodburn.

The Governor’s Cup event promotes the importance of physical activity and provides a time of fellowship and activity for State of Delaware employees and pensioners. This fun-filled event features refreshments, giveaways and free T-shirts. Awards are given to race winners.

The Food Bank of Delaware will be on-site collecting donated nonperishable food from participants. Each week, 17,000 Delawareans turn to emergency food assistance. And 44 percent of households served include children under the age of 18. Please help us feed the hungry. View list of urgently needed items.

Free Shuttles

Shuttle service will be provided at select Dover locations, as event-day parking around Woodburn is limited. A shuttle schedule will be provided to interested registrants via email as the event date gets closer.

  • 5K Run: Top three fastest male and female runners in 10-year age groups
  • 5K Walk: Top 3 fastest male and female walkers
  • Overall male and female winners
  • Master Winner: Top 40 and over winner

Group Awards

A group must consist of at least five members, with at least one member being a female.

  • Most Spirited Group (combined on-site events)
  • 5K Run: Fastest group (based on the cumulative time of the first five finishers from each group, including at least one female finisher)
    Winners to be announced post-race.
  • 5K Walk: Fastest group (based on the cumulative time of the first five finishers from each group, including at least one female finisher)
    Winners to be announced post-race.
  • A Governor’s Cup will be awarded to a small, medium and large agency with the most event participants.

FAQs

  • Who is eligible to register and participate in this event?

    Event registration and participation is open to State of Delaware employees, pensioners, and faculty and staff from all public school districts and charter schools. The event is NOT open to spouses and dependents.

  • Employee use of time

    Because of the combined benefit to both employees and the state, we encourage participation wherever operationally feasible. At the discretion of supervisors, employees may come in early, stay late, or work a shortened lunch hour in order to account for time. Annual leave and accrued compensatory time can be utilized if flexible scheduling is not possible.

  • Do participants in the 1-Mile Noncompetitive Fun Walk wear race numbers?

    No, only participants in the 5K Run and 5K Walk will receive and be required to wear a race number during the event. Race numbers will be distributed the day of the event from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. 5K Run/Walk participants will receive information via email as the event gets closer.
